There’s always something happening at Sunshine. Here’s what we’ve been up to in the recent past and what we’re working towards for the immediate future. Sunshine Community Network November 2007 SCN News: PDF Document (208KB) 2006 Annual Report Artistic Collaboration 2008 In Term 3, our clients will go to Abbotsleigh for 6 to 8 sessions of workshops with the girls where they will design and complete their collaborative pieces of art. They will work in 6 groups and each group will produce at least one if not more pieces of art together. In October, from the 10th to the 30th, the works will be on displayed at the Ku-ring-gai Art Centre. Much credit is due to the students and staff of Abbotsleigh for rising to the challenge and their active pursuit of service-learning opportunities. Sunshine is grateful to ANZ for the valuable support it has extended for this project, without which the experience that Artistic Collaboration 08 affords our clients may not have been possible.KU Grandstand Preschool Cordonys Macquarie Group Foundation and Live Payments Dee Why RSL Club supports Frenchs Forest Sunshine is thrilled to receive the support of the Dee Why RSL Club again in this new financial year! Dee Why RSL’S generous donation to Frenchs Forest Flexible Lifestyles last year allowed them to purchase a range of equipment for their sensory room. As a result, the clients are able to enjoy a range of interaction and stimulation through light and motion sensitive equipment. For the clients at French Forest who have higher support needs, these are sometimes the only means of interaction and stimulation that they can initiate themselves. With this years funding, Frenchs Forest will be setting up a Ball Room to facilitate physical activity and muscle tone for their clients. For some, this is crucial to delay the need to be in wheelchairs. We are grateful to the Dee Why RSL Club for their active concern and support for the less advantaged within their community. Quite above and beyond the artistry in the exquisite design of the quilts themselves, the kind, patient hands that put them together imbue the quilts with love and the comfort that love brings. That’s what makes the gifts from the Hunters Hill Quilters so very special to us. The fact that so many hands and hearts dedicated so many hours fashioning quilts for our residents at Parklea. Last December, our Parklea resident, Nada Parsons accompanied Gail Jeltes, General Manager, Corporate Relations to visit the quilters and to collect 7 gorgeous quilts that were made especially for the residents of Parklea. We are so grateful for the support the Hunter’s Hill Quilters have shown Sunshine in choosing to dedicate their time to making exquisite quilts for us and applaud their community spirit. Special thanks to Ms Jill Regnis, Community Relations Officer, for getting in touch with us and to all the ladies at the Hunters Hill Quilters. Sunshine Dinner 2007 The inaugural Sunshine Dinner was hosted on the 30th of November 2007. The date the 30th of November was chosen for its proximity to the 3rd of December, International Day of People with Disabilities. This allowed us also to mark the occasion and celebrate the achievements of our clients. The dinner following in the wake of a season of political rallies had more of an agenda than a political rally itself! We launched the new official logo for Sunshine, appointed an inaugural ambassador for Sunshine in the person of The Hon. Warwick Smith and introduced our new Chairman, Mr Martin Laverty. On the night, brilliant inspirational speaker Mr Bruce Sullivan also launched his first book – “Hannah’s Christmas Gift” and enthralled us all with his fast paced presentation which provided us with many preferable perspectives on life’s sometimes challenging situations. Bruce also gave Sunshine an unexpected early “ Christmas” gift – a $10,000 donation, plus the proceeds of all book that were sold that evening. And the entertainment continued in the hands of our MC for the evening, Mr Andrew Buchanan, Chairperson, Disability Council NSW. A long time supporter and friend of Sunshine, Andrew informed and entertained with his wealth of knowledge about disability services and his wicked sense of humour ! Beautiful entertainment of the melodic variety was provided by Nuage Swing, our volunteer musicians for the evening comprising Mr John Dabron on violin and Mr Campbell Atkins, and Mr Stuart McVicar on guitars. The generosity didn’t stop there and many guests that evening took part in our silent and grand auctions of fine wines from all our sponsors. The evening was a huge success – apart from raising in the region of $20,000, it celebrated the lives of the people that we support and the work that we do, and introduced Sunshine to many new friends and supporters. We are grateful to our sponsors : And our heartfelt thanks go to :
